Wanda June Lenertz was born in Anoka Township on August 16, 1936 to William and Martha (Ehlers) Schiefer. After high school, Wanda worked in the produce and meat departments at the Red Owl grocery store in Robbinsdale and Coon Rapids. In 1964, she married John Lenertz.
Wanda had a deep love and passion for her several shelties: Joshie, Heather, Shammie and Cody. To Wanda, these were more than pets - they were her lifelong companions, for which she gave and received unconditional love. In turn, she showed that same love to her family and close circle of friends. Wanda had a great love for music and was always humming or singing a chorus of some random song that brought her joy. Wanda always loved to joke around with her friends; she also loved the outdoors and watching the countless wildlife that would come to the feeders she thoughtfully maintained every day. Wanda was a very spiritual person who believed the Lord created everyone as equals and no one in need was beyond extending a hand to. Wanda was eager to share this spiritual belief (and all the things in life that brought her such great joy) with anyone who came in contact with her.
Survivors include very special friends Jim Hunter & Bobbie Sarff Johnson; her good neighbor, Silvia Kurtz, all of Brainerd; her son, Steve Lenertz of Maple Grove,; granddaughter, Kristin (Touminen) of Duluth, MN; and brother, Bill Shaefer of Washington. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers Alvin and Robert Scheifer; and sisters, Norma and Juanita.
