Jeanette M Hohman

Long-time Brainerd area resident Jeanette Marie Papostolou Hohman, 93, died February 12, 2012 in Brainerd after a short illness.

Jeanette Hohman was born to Agnes Grundstrom Papostolou and John Papostolou in Minneapolis on August 26, 1918. Her parents ran a number of restaurants and finally moved to Brainerd where Jeanette graduated high school. She then attended Macalaster College in St. Paul and later the University of Minnesota where she graduated with a degree in business.

She married William (“Bill”) Dean Hohman in 1943 and they resided in Brainerd and later at the home they built on North Long Lake. Jeanette had a long professional career in social services and was a social worker and supervisor for Crow Wing County social services.

After she and her husband retired, they enjoyed living at the lake and traveling. Bill died in 1986 and Jeanette continued living at the lake until the last few years. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her love of learning and literature, and her passion for discussing politics and world affairs.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sister, Elaine Stowell (Leonard) of Ft. Myers, FL; her son, Douglas Hohman (Janet Thomas) of Brainerd; and her daughter, Christy Hohman (Grant Goltz) of Hackensack, MN. She will be greatly missed by her family and her close circle of women friends with whom she enjoyed many lively discussions over coffee.

At her request, no service will be held. Memorials may be sent to Doctors Without Borders or the charity of your choice.
